The fishing service is a nice option, and they can cook whatever you catch into a delicious meal 😋. It’s very close to the port. The accommodation is old, but clean enough, with excellent service and tasty dinner.

I asked about the sea taxi. The ferry was running, so I ended up not needing the taxi, but I really appreciated how thoroughly they explained it to me.

Tokashiki Island is so hilly that a moped seems like the best way to explore beyond Aharen Beach if you’re on your own. A bicycle might get tiring. They picked me up in time for the ferry arrival, and I paid 3,800 yen for four hours. I booked the day before and got a 10% discount. At drop-off they checked the meter and charged me 200 yen for gas. It was an older Suzuki, but worked fine. This guesthouse also rents cars, and I rented a moped.

The lodging seems to have a bad reputation, but this place is really about renting cars and motorcycles. I’d recommend a two-day, one-night car rental for the best value. You can pick it up at 9:00 AM on day one and return it by 5:00 PM the next day. Kei cars are 6,900 yen excluding tax, while Copens are 7,500 yen excluding tax. Gas is charged at just under 300 yen per 10 km. That’s quite expensive if you’re getting around 20 km per liter, though I understand that’s the island price. Aharen has some rentals too, but the choices are limited, so there may be none left in peak season. Call early to reserve. They also rent fishing rods for 1,500 yen, including tackle for light shore fishing. Personally, I think the tetrapod area at the pier past Aharen is the only place to fish.
