Hotel Lexton Tokunoshima

Compared with the other places on the island, which are mostly Ryokan, this is one of the few actual hotels. Parking was free, and check-in was modern and automated. The rooms felt modern too, with RFID keys. It was surprisingly high-tech for a remote island. Only in Japan.

It's an okay local-style hotel, not especially good or bad, and fine for a one-night stay. The condition was decent, and having the family restaurant Joyful on the ground floor was handy. There's also a local supermarket about a five-minute walk away. If you're visiting Tokunoshima for a resort stay, I'd look for somewhere else.

My room was on a lower floor, so it stayed dim even during the day, and the lights weren't much brighter at night, which gave it a gloomy feel. The staff's attitude toward customers felt much the same. Exterior wall construction is underway, and the room will be available in December 2024. The Rexton Tanegashima, where I stayed before, was better.
