The breakfast at Grand Palace Tokushima was the standout for me. There was real care in the local dishes, from packaged grilled rice balls and fish cutlets to sweetly marinated shishamo. Even Chibita drinks showed up on the buffet, a playful surprise that stuck with me. I often praise Dormy Inn for its local offerings, and this meal impressed me just as much. Agnes Hotel itself is a little unusual. The entrance looks like a patisserie, with reception tucked at the back, and the rooms are upstairs. They're somewhat dated, with the wear of years. Agnes Hotel Plus, which is newer, stands across the way, while Grand Palace Tokushima is behind it and serves breakfast. At checkout, reception told me Agnes is part of the APA Hotel group. Booking directly could have earned me APA points, a handy little perk. The place isn't flashy, but the thoughtful service and local character made for a quietly satisfying stay.

The location is hard to beat, just a 4 minute walk west from Tokushima train station. The rooms felt noticeably bigger than a typical business hotel, and the staff were friendly and very professional. Breakfast was a small buffet with only a few options, but they were good quality, simple and tasty. The bakery was the real treat. Every pastry seemed perfectly made, and I still think fondly of the mille feuille. I'd recommend staying here if you're visiting this relaxing, beautiful city.

For this price, I was disappointed. The room was reasonably clean, but it looked old, and it really needs an upgrade, especially the door lock. The bathroom has that old-fashioned business hotel feel.
