Hotel Avanti

The staff are very kind. They'd already brought the luggage I sent from Narita airport to my room by the time I arrived three days later. They may ask to take your picture when you come to the second-floor front desk for breakfast, and the walls there are covered with photos of travelers from around the world. Breakfast included small bread, a banana, a can of juice, coffee, and another bread with sweet beans inside. Staff understand English and practiced their Spanish with us. The hotel is very close to Awa Odori Kaikan, about a five-minute walk, and you should go. You'll enjoy it even if you don't understand Japanese. Tokushima train station is about a 20-minute walk away. The place is cheap and old, so don't expect new, super-comfortable rooms. They're small, but have what you need for a short, low-budget stay in Tokushima.

For 3000JPY/night, this is a good budget hotel. The bed and bathroom were clean, though dated, but the room itself was a bit filthy, with uncleaned spots under the bed and behind the curtain. Security and room cleanliness are poor: you don't need a key to reach the guest room floor, and the elevator goes straight there without passing the hotel desk.

Everything I needed for daily use was there, and breakfast was provided. There's also a safe place to park a bike. A great place to spend the night before starting my cycle!

This might suit a backpacker, but I wouldn't recommend it to others. The room was terribly dirty, old, small, smelly, and not secure, especially for the high price. I stayed on Aug-14 to see the Awaodori festival and paid ¥20000 because every other hotel was booked. Crazy expensive. I'll never stay here again. This hotel is awful!
