The rooms feel stuffy and dirty, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here for the price. There are better places available. They don’t clean the rooms well: there were spots on the mirrors by the window, a clothing size sticker left beside the bed, and random bits of trash. The bathroom had a strong mold smell, with visible mold along the sides of the unsealed tub. The small rooms are standard for Tokyo, but that smell and mold aren’t. The room looks nice in photos, though closer up everything is old and dated and needs an update. The plugs by the bed don’t work. The TV is old, not smart, and gets maybe six channels, though there’s pay per view.

The room was big and comfortable, and the toiletries smelled nice and felt good on my skin. There was no body lotion, which is normal for Japanese hotels. Breakfast was simple, but the tofu was the highlight and a must-try. There were odd noises around the place. They weren’t too loud, but light sleepers would probably be bothered. The onsen was just a hot tub, and I didn’t like the musty smell in the sauna.

The hotel is centrally located, with a train station just around the corner, and the reception staff were very friendly and tried to help. The rooms are tiny, though I think many Tokyo hotel rooms are like that. We liked having a washer and dryer on the top floor, which made laundry easy, and reception kindly gave us coins to use them. We stayed at Candeo Hotels in November 2025. The room we were given was dusty and a little stuffy. We understand it may not have been used for a while, but it would have been nice to have a proper clean beforehand. The bathroom was tiny and dusty too, and there were basic things like a kettle, tea, and coffee. We didn’t like having to get up before 8am to put a room-cleaning sign on the door. On holiday, some people don’t expect to wake up early, though luckily we’re early risers. As vegans, breakfast was difficult: the staff didn’t seem knowledgeable about vegan meals, and the vegetables were mixed in with meat dishes. Luckily, there’s a vegan restaurant opposite the hotel that made getting breakfast easy. The lobby washroom was messy, with water everywhere.

We had a great stay at Candeo Roppongi, so the bad reviews here surprised us. Our deluxe king on the 13th floor wasn’t small by Tokyo standards. The room and hotel were very clean, with no mold or odd smell, and everything felt modern and updated. We loved the location and the mesmerizing city views, especially in the snow. The train station is accessible through the Family Mart about 30 seconds up the road, and there are plenty of food and coffee places within walking distance. The staff were only positive in our experience. You can choose daily room service or request it when you like. If you skip it, the staff leave fresh towels and water bottles in a complete set hanging on your door. The coin laundry was cheap and easy to use. Our only complaints were the fairly regular plumbing noises, or possibly heating or A/C, and the TV, which could use a larger screen and casting.

The rooftop onsen was clean and really pleasant. My first room didn’t have a good view, so I paid extra to move to one overlooking Tokyo Tower. That turned out to be a great choice. Ava at reception was friendly and spoke English well. I had a nice stay and would recommend the hotel.
