On our family’s first trip to Japan, we were incredibly happy with this place. The house was clean and had a homely feel, and it was very well located. The host was so kind and helped us a lot during the stay. We’re very grateful.

The apartment worked well as a cool, quiet base in the blazing summer heat, and the photos were accurate. It had a fridge and freezer, a roomy closet, microwave, electric cooker, washing machine, and air conditioning that took a while to cool the place. The washer doesn’t dry clothes, but there’s a balcony for hanging them up. The entry instructions were clear, and a multilingual booklet explained the rules and equipment. Google Translate may still be useful for details like using the washing machine, so it’s a helpful setup for first-time visitors to Japan. The host did their best to answer our questions. We did get mixed up about luggage storage hours: it was available from 12 PM to 3 PM, not 12 AM. I should have realized that, but the host had confirmed 12 AM when I checked. If you arrive before noon, Yamato Transport is 10 minutes north and can store a bag for 800 yen each. It’s a 10-15 minute walk to the main part of Asakusa, but the apartment was hard to find even when coming back after a day out. The grid layout, similar-looking buildings, and tiny sign didn’t help, and there’s hardly any shade nearby. Our room, 302, was up a narrow set of stairs on the third floor, which could be tough with heavy luggage. Still, it was a great spot to watch the Sumida river fireworks from inside or with locals on the nearby streets. That was much better than the ‘walking fireworks tour’ in the main Asakusa area, where we were herded like sheep and saw only a tiny bit of the show.

There’s no elevator, but luckily my room was on the first floor. The subway station isn’t far, and there’s a convenience store nearby. As a light sleeper, I really appreciated how quiet the neighborhood was. I wasn’t disturbed at all, and the room got lovely sunlight and fresh air. I’ll definitely choose Dream House again next time.

It’s a peaceful area that’s still lively, and Asakusa is about a 10-minute walk away. I was on the third floor, so carrying luggage was a bit inconvenient. If you’re a woman or have lots of bags, I’d suggest asking for the first floor. The host was super nice, a Chinese-speaking woman. I’ll stay here again next time I’m in Tokyo.
