Dai-Ichi Hotel Ryogoku

The location made it easy to get around Tokyo, with the underground metro and nearby station both readily accessible. We had a very pleasant, comfortable stay at the Daiichi Hotel in Ryogoku. It was clean, tidy, and well maintained throughout. The staff didn’t speak much English, but they were friendly and very helpful. We prefer a colder room for sleeping, and since the heating was on, they quickly brought us a fan. That small gesture made a big difference. We’d happily stay again.

The metro is close by, which is what this hotel does well. It was by far the cheapest hotel I could book, so if price is your main concern, this may suit you. The staff weren’t rude, but they weren’t friendly either. It looks nice outside, but inside it’s a worn-out old hotel. The carpet is worn and dirty, and the bathroom fans are gross, with big clumps of dirt and mildew. You can’t change the room temperature, whether you want it hotter or colder. If you’re sweating or freezing, apparently that’s not the hotel’s problem.

The view of Tokyo Skytree from the 22nd floor was spectacular, and breakfast was delicious, with both continental and Asian choices. We stayed as part of a group tour. The room was clean and the bed was big for two by Japan’s standards. A nice hotel.

There are lots of good places to eat nearby, and the hotel is close to two train stations. It’s also easy to get to Edo-Tokyo Museum, the Kokugikan, and a couple of nice parks. We love this hotel!
