Dormy Inn Akihabara Hot Spring

After a long day exploring Japan, having an onsen or sento to relax in is one of the reasons I keep choosing Dormy Inn. This one is handy for Akihabara and a metro station. The outdoor sento has lots of seating where you can cool off, and it was quiet enough that I often had it to myself. My room was very small, with only enough space for one person to sit, and the window faced a tall building's blank wall, so there was no natural light. That didn't bother me since I wasn't planning to spend much time in the room.

The onsen was great, with three baths at different temperatures and a sauna. The hotel is also in a very active part of town and the room was compact but functional, as expected in Japan. Two big bags would make it hard to move around. But we booked for three people, two adults and one preteen, and got a bedroom with two single beds, 2x90cm, 2x3', pushed together. We were told, « They didn’t have a bigger room ». That setup could be fine for two, but it was a nightmare for three. 2 Persons MAX.

The room was spotless and tidy, with plenty of charging ports, and the location made things easy, right by the subway and near lots of restaurants and a 7-11. I stayed for two weeks in Tokyo and, even though I barely knew Japanese or the local culture and policies, the staff were very helpful and accommodating. When I locked myself out once, they helped right away. I'd definitely book here again if I visit Tokyo.

The location is a dream if you want to get around: about 10 minuet walk to the JR Yamanote Line Okachimachi station, 15 to Akihabara station, 20min to Ueno Park, and just steps from the Ginza Subway line. Electric City is right there too. We loved our stay. The hotel has fresh towels every day, comfortable beds, soft pajamas, and great amenities. The rooms are just big enough for two, though we made three work by staying organized. Breakfast was delicious, and the spa was amazing. My daughter worked up the courage to try the public bath and loved it. If you have tattoos, you aren't permitted to use the bath house. Free ice cream and drinks are available after your plunge, and there’s a great manga selection, two decent vending machines, free washer, 100yen/20min dryer, and free Ramen from 9-11pm. I'll absolutely stay again.
