I got a great deal on this place through AirBnB. It’s in Ueno, a short walk from Okachimachi station on the Yamanote line, and close to restaurants and convenience stores. The host was helpful, quick to respond, and gave me plenty of useful information. Because it was cold outside during my visit, they provided a heated mattress. A woman helped me get in when I arrived. Her English wasn’t very strong, but she understood me and helped a lot. It’s a very nice, inexpensive place, and I’d recommend it to people traveling alone.

Check-in was quick and fairly easy. The room was spacious and comfortable, though we couldn’t use the ofuro and the toilet water pressure wasn’t great. We were on the third floor of a building with no elevator, so hauling our luggage upstairs was quite a chore. The location is excellent, just a few blocks from Okachimachi Station and within walking distance of Ueno, Keisei Ueno, and Akihabara. The area feels very safe even late at night.

The neighborhood was quiet, and the room was clean. It’s handy that you can leave your luggage before check-in, and the price felt like good value. There are two metro stations nearby, plus a laundry. The walls are thin, but earplugs are provided. If the other guests are considerate, you can get a really good night’s sleep.
