6/10
The friendly staff were appreciated, and the room was a little better than the extremely cramped lobby. But cleanliness and maintenance were disappointing, with a shocking number of things not working. Guests should set their expectations carefully. Calling this a hotel suggests a level of basic comfort, cleanliness, and functioning facilities that I didn't find here. The room was freezing at night because the heater on the air conditioner didn't work, and the blanket wasn't warm enough for winter. Cold wind came in through a damaged window. The ventilation fan and TV were also unusable. The safe didn't work either, and it was portable rather than fixed in place. The property is in a local residential neighborhood, which may offer a glimpse of everyday life, but it felt more like basic lodging than a hotel. The lobby is extremely tight. Hotel Sails showing up in hotel search results gave me the impression it was a proper hotel, which my stay didn't match.

The rooms are big enough, and you can relax on the balcony. It takes about a 10-minute walk to reach Minowa Station, but the hotel itself is very nice.

It was a very quiet place, and the room felt more like home than a regular hotel. I liked having a balcony, plus a washing machine and dryer right there. Being able to cook a little and use the full refrigerator made everything easy. A great fit if you're after a comfortable place with more of a long-stay feel.

Of the three hotels I've stayed at in Japan, this was both the cheapest and the best. Lovely hotel and lovely service.

The staff helped us fill out the luggage delivery forms and let us know when our bags had been picked up, which was really helpful. Everyone was friendly, and the room was clean. Having a washing machine and dryer was great. The location worked well too, close to the train station and with a 7/11 nearby. We had a lovely stay at hotel sails and would definitely come back.
