The owners were so kind, even filling the bathtub with hot water just as we were about to leave. Their home had the warm, familiar feeling of an ordinary family house, tucked away in a quiet residential area. The beds were large, and soap and a hairdryer were provided. It felt like being back home.

The owner was very kind. I’d like to stay with him again.

The breakfast was fantastic, and I appreciated the tatami alcove they prepared for me as an apology. It’s a rare place in Japan that gives you the feeling of staying in a guesthouse abroad.

I’d booked and paid, but they told me I was staying there without permission.
