Kaika hotel turned out better than we expected after I found it on Expedia and spent a lot of time searching for a good location at a reasonable price. We were in Japan for our first family visit from 5/1/26 thru 5/9/26. The staff were very friendly and gave us useful advice on getting around. When there was a problem with our door, they moved us to a much bigger room. The bathrooms were larger than the ones we saw at other hotels, and breakfast was pretty good. The soup could have used more seasoning, but I liked it. The nearest train station is a 15-minute walk, and the closest 7-11 is just two minutes away. I'd gladly stay again and highly recommend it.

Coming back to this quiet, peaceful part of Sumida at the end of the day was relaxing, and I really appreciated being away from the crowds. KAIKA Tokyo by THE SHARE HOTELS has a distinctive art-storage concept. Art is worked naturally into the understated design, without making the space feel overwhelming. My room was comfortable, clean, and well maintained, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It left me with a good impression, and I'd happily return.

The café experience left the worst impression. Though it was supposed to close at 6:30pm, I went down around 7pm and saw two staff members behind the counter. I politely asked for a muffin that was right there on display, but they refused because they were “closed.” After paying so much, being turned away over something that simple while staff were still there felt rigid and rude. The building, lobby, and minimalist modern design are beautiful, but the hotel is expensive for what it provides. Service is sparse and detached, more like a self-serviced apartment than a full-service hotel. There are no phones in the rooms or room service, which surprised me in Japan, where hospitality is usually exceptional. There are no bowls, cutlery, utensils, or microwave in the room. The fridge is tiny, barely holding a few drinks, and has no freezer. Laundry is in the basement, with just three washers and three dryers for the whole hotel. They were always occupied, so we couldn't use them. The residential area is quiet, but there's little around. It takes about five minutes to walk to a convenience store and roughly 15 minutes to the nearest station. The surroundings are mostly homes, apartments, and dental clinics, making it awkward for exploring Tokyo. The rooms were much smaller than the photos suggested, and ours had a different layout than expected. We couldn't have two suitcases open without blocking the whole walkway. The beds are extremely firm, uncomfortable if you're used to softer Western mattresses and pillows. The TV faces a wall instead of the beds and can't be adjusted. It only has a handful of local Japanese channels, with no YouTube, streaming apps, or AirPlay. For such an expensive hotel, no smart TV in 2026 feels unacceptable. Although it looks lovely, the high price is hard to justify given the limited amenities, location, cramped rooms, uncomfortable beds, and underwhelming service. I wouldn't come back, and would look for somewhere more central with better service and basic room conveniences.

It's nice to stay in this quiet area, a little away from the crowds. The building is unusual but not easy to spot, and it's within walking distance of the bridge. There's breakfast, tea bags, and drinking water, and the staff are helpful. If you want snacks at night, you might want to pick some up on your way back. Our room had a lot of space, and the place makes smart use of it, even though it's not a five-star hotel.

The location is a bit off the beaten path. It takes a while to walk to the nearest underground station, and there aren't many restaurants nearby, though Tokyo Skytree is fairly close. The WiFi was very slow for us, or maybe just in our room, so Netflix, Disney+ and similar services kept buffering. Still, I can recommend the hotel. The rooms are quite large by Japanese, especially Tokyo, standards, and the modern interior is in good condition. There's a pleasant lobby café and a lounge with a vending machine, laundry room, and a few kitchen appliances for making quick meals.
