There was long hair all over the guest room, including the floor, table, top of the refrigerator, and top of the TV. It looked like a woman who had stayed for a long time had left it behind, far more than a couple of strands missed during cleaning. I think I was given a room that hadn’t been cleaned at all. There were three women working there, probably in their 90s, 80s, and 70s. The oldest woman used a walker, but she seemed like she might be showing signs of dementia and would stop in the hallway instead of moving along with it. There was no bathroom in the room. You had to tell them ahead of time when you wanted to bathe, and they would bathe at that time. A man might not mind staying there.

I’d like to stay here again when I return to Tokyo. The staff were very kind and considerate to me in lots of ways. I was impressed to find a retro Showa-era inn right next to Tokyo Tower in Minato Ward. The old Japanese-style rooms have a chic, cool feel you don’t get in business hotels. I hope they keep them as they are, without any strange renovations.

After dark, the view of Tokyo Tower from the inn was so beautiful that I’d happily make that trip again. The place is a little dated, but it was clean and comfortable. Given the location and everything else, I’m really grateful it was this affordable.

Whenever I’m in Tokyo for meetings, I come back here. It’s become my regular hotel, and the warm atmosphere and great hospitality always make me feel at home. Having a parking lot is useful too. It also feels like one of the few long-established inns around these days, and that’s especially helpful with all the inbound tourism lately.

The location was great, and we had a fun stay. It’s a very retro inn with 116 years of history, and the proprietress was lovely to us. The futons were clean as well. There’s noticeable mold, though, and the age of the place may be a problem if you’re particular about cleanliness.
