Loisir Hotel Shinagawa Seaside

The front desk staff were polite, friendly, and helpful, and both the location and room size were good. The room itself, though, was the dirtiest I've stayed in during all my trips to Japan. I was there for seven nights in a room with a tatami area. There were several hairs on the tatami and what looked like a million on the carpet. I suspect the cleaners didn't vacuum it because the hair wasn't easy to spot. There was toothpaste on the bathroom floor when I arrived too. It wouldn't have been hard to clean, but it seemed the foreign cleaning staff just didn't bother. The management didn't seem to care about providing clean rooms.

There are plenty of restaurants nearby, and a big Aeon mall stays open until 2200z. The check-in lobby has a nice view and a water supplier, though the rooms are pretty small. It's attached to the underground, but still around 20-25 minutes by train from Tokyo station. Trains become much less frequent after 10pm, with waits of 10-15 minutes, so getting back to the hotel can take a while if you're out late exploring the city.

The big Aeon mall and a FamilyMart are right outside, and it's about a 10-minute taxi ride to Shinagawa Shinkansen. Check-in was super easy, and the girls at the desk were really friendly. Our room was clean and had what we needed for me and our two daughters. We booked a Japanese room, which was nice, though luggage space was limited. I'd definitely recommend it for simple accommodation.

From the lobby and my room, I could see Tokyo Bay, and the staff were very friendly and spoke English well. Getting to places like Shinjuku or Ginza is a bit complicated and takes you farther out. My room sometimes felt quite hot even with the AC on, and the ventilation near the window was too small. Still, I enjoyed my week-long stay.
