Millennium Mitsui Garden Hotel Tokyo/Ginza

We only stayed one night in Ginza, and the location was a real plus: close to the train station with lots of restaurants nearby. The room was a good size by Tokyo standards, and we could open both of our large suitcases. We liked the firm bed and the pillows, which weren't soft and flat. Check-in at 7:45 pm was slow; one staff member seemed inexperienced and needed help from another.

We've returned to this place in Tokyo for years, and expect to keep coming back. Moeka checked us in during our latest stay, from the 4th to the 8th and again on the 10th-11th of June. Her hospitality, along with that of the other staff, was refreshingly wonderful. The rooms are clean and laid out practically for work or a vacation, and the location makes shopping, food, and transport easy. Well done!

The rooms are on the small side, as they tend to be in Tokyo, but the extra amenities and service made that easy to overlook. We found the staff incredibly friendly, the service great, and our room was tidied every day. The shower was one of the best we've used in a hotel. Being so central also made getting around by metro easy and efficient, especially on our first trip to Tokyo. We'd stay again in a heartbeat.

A staff member immediately offered to arrange a room change, which I appreciated, though I still don't know whether the new room will be any cleaner. The room I entered was disappointing for cleanliness, and I wouldn't stay again at this price. The detachable showerhead needs a deep clean: there was calcium buildup, and its holder had grime on it. The frosted shower glass was worn, with watermarks from top to bottom. I also noticed wear on the wallpaper and baseboards that could use repair. Looking through reviews from several years back, this doesn't seem unusual, so I wonder how seriously upper management addresses it. In comparison with the handful of places I stayed during two weeks in Japan, including a two-star hostel, the bathroom didn't meet my expectations for Japanese cleanliness standards. The standard queen rooms with a shower-only bath face the building interior, so they have no view. That wasn't clear on third-party booking sites; I only found it in the room details on the official Mitsui website. I'd expected a safer bet on cleanliness after reading that Mitsui is a reputable Japanese hotel chain. The wear over time is quite obvious at this particular Millenium Mitsui Ginza hotel, and the housekeeping staff don't seem to have been trained to pay close attention to detail.
