Hotel MyStays Ueno Iriyaguchi

The cigarette smell mixed with incense was the main problem for us. Even in a non-smoking room, we noticed it throughout the floor and in our room. An air purifier and the AC helped tone it down a little. The building and room features felt old, though the 24-inch TV was a nice touch. This isn't a new or luxurious hotel. It's a reasonable cheap option if you're after a calm neighborhood and only plan to use the room to sleep and clean up. There is a laundry room. The location worked well for exploring: Ameyoko and Asakusa were easy to reach, and the Ginza subway line made it convenient to see eastern Tokyo. Ueno Station is a 15-minute walk, with affordable, quick access to the Keisei Skyliner for Narita Airport. We enjoyed the neighborhood. We stayed at a different hotel in Shinjuku for the first part of our trip.

The reservation staff were willing to help while my leg was injured, and I really appreciated it. Good price for the Ueno area, with an easy walk to JR and Ginza.

The staff made a strong impression on me. They were professional and pleasant every time, and happy to help with questions. I also found the price reasonable for the amenities and service, especially for exploring the Ueno area on a budget. Keisei Ueno and JR Ueno are both about 1 km away. You can walk, though I wouldn't recommend it in the current weather, and taxis can be expensive. There's also a train station within walking distance. My stay was August 28 to August 31, and I was mostly pleased, but the worn carpet made the room feel dusty and less comfortable. Refurbishing it would help the room's upkeep and cleanliness.

The location was convenient, but we left earlier than planned and didn't get a refund. The stay had become stressful because the room was so unclean. Dust on the bedroom carpet caused problems for family members with dust allergies, and there was mold in several bathroom spots, including the door sealant, behind the mirror, and on the shower head. The bedroom wallpaper was peeling, possibly because the ventilation wasn't working properly. I generally don't mind an older hotel if it's clean, but this one fell far short. The longer I looked, the more problems I found, and I attached photos. The owners seem insensitive to improving the place.
