Onyado Nono Asakusa Natural Hot Springs

The location worked well for us, with plenty of places to eat in Asakusa, Senso-ji just a two-minute walk away, and the nearest metro stations about ten minutes on foot. At the price we paid, the small rooms felt like good value for Tokyo. Breakfast was a strong point, with fresh fruit, pastries, and Japanese dishes laid out buffet-style each day. I also loved the onsen. I have tattoos and used it during all five nights without any trouble, even though the rules say tattoos aren't allowed. I saw plenty of Japanese and Western guests with tattoos there too. The free ice cream afterward was a nice extra. One small annoyance: having to take off our shoes got old quickly when all the lockers were full.

We’ve stayed here twice, and both times the rooms were quiet, clean, and well cared for. They also left us a complimentary snack and water. The onsen was relaxing, breakfast was fantastic, and you can get soba in the evening or ice cream after bathing. The hotel sits right beside a shopping street, which is handy if you want to enjoy Asakusa without being right in the thickest crowds. The main drawbacks are the walk to the nearest station and the shoe lockers. When the hotel is full, every locker may be taken, so you have to put your shoes in a bag and bring them up to your room.

The location felt too noisy and touristy for me, and breakfast was only so-so with a long wait. The staff were okay, though not especially friendly. Maybe they're dealing with so many tourists. The hotel has a more Japanese feel than Dormy, with tatami in the rooms and shoes off throughout the building. But having to remove my shoes every time I came in and keep track of a key was a hassle. I prefer Dormy and will probably make this my last stay here. People who love this place may not have stayed at many Japanese hotels.

After more than 14 hours of travel, the quiet, tranquil hotel was a welcome place to arrive. I loved the Osun, and breakfast was delicious, though a bit pricey. There are museums, historical sights, restaurants, and shops in the area. Getting there was the hard part. The hotel doesn't provide transportation to the train or bus, and check-in took a long time because they had trouble finding our reservation. Clear directions from the airport would help.
