The host, Kensan, was warm, welcoming, and funny, and gave us suggestions for places to visit and restaurants. Otsu Nature Garden was spacious and sits near a peaceful river. We enjoyed the delicious breakfast and had BBQ there too. We had a wonderful stay, highly recommended by travellers from Hong Kong.

The owners are even more of a highlight than the lovely area, which I enjoy in every season. I've been back more than once, both to stay overnight while hiking and visiting the onsen, and to stop at the cafe for lunch on day trips.

Ken is so helpful and welcoming, and he makes a delicious breakfast. He speaks English pretty well too, which is useful if you're visiting from abroad. It's a beautiful, peaceful place for a Japanese countryside stay, whether you're camping or just escaping the noisy cities.

I rented a BBQ set that was ready to use, and the surprising thing is that this spot is still in Tokyo. The river water was really cold, but it felt great. I visited during the busy vacation season when it was a bit crowded, and the river and forest made it a lovely place to enjoy nature.

Ken is a really welcoming host and makes sure you have what you need. The cosy, convenient house is a lovely place to wake up with mountain views, and it's a great break from central Tokyo, with the local onsen very close by. If you're visiting Akigawa Valley, I'd definitely stay here. Just check the bus timetable before you go.
