At around $57 (about 8,800-9,000 yen), Pearl Hotel Kayabacho worked well as an affordable base for central Tokyo. Kayabacho Station is just 3 minutes away, with access to the Tozai and Hibiya lines. That makes Otemachi, Tokyo Station, and Tokyo Disney Resort easy to reach. Tokyo Station itself is a 20-minute walk. My room had a 140cm-wide Simmons bed. It was surprisingly clean, quiet, and well kept. There’s a desk and the unit bath has strong water pressure, so it works well for business or solo trips. The centralized AC and lack of power outlets by the bed do show the hotel’s age. It has a 45-year history and old-school metal keys, though the interior was renovated in 2016 for seismic safety. The neighborhood has spiritual power spots and affordable local food, so you can get an authentic Tokyo experience without paying Tokyo Station prices. 💡 Pro Tips: - Sightseeing: At "Nihonbashi Hie Shrine," you can rub the unusual upward-facing guardian dog for luck. "Koami Shrine" is known for strong protection and financial fortune. - Dining: "Joshu Motsujiro" serves a hearty "Motsuni" (stewed organ meat) set meal for under 1,000 yen. For charcoal-grilled mackerel at breakfast, try "Shinpachi Shokudo." - Practicality: There are about 10 steps at the entrance, so take care with very heavy luggage. The location is handy, just a few minutes from the train station, with restaurants and convenience stores nearby. Each guest gets a bottle of water daily, and there are lots of free toiletries in the lobby. But the room and restroom were tiny, with barely enough space to move around with another guest. We somehow got a smoking room, and the first night was awful. Every day when we left, we had to keep the window open to air out the smoke. The rooms and hallways smelled of smoke. They also charged 500 yen for extra towels. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you're on a really tight budget and don't want a hostel. The small rooms and restroom were a big downside.

There are plenty of restaurants around the hotel, and Kayabacho Station is nearby, which is very convenient. The style feels old-fashioned, and it still uses physical keys, but I didn't mind that. The only drawback was the smoking smell in the room, as other reviews have mentioned. I brought air freshener, so it was okay. If asked, I'd definitely choose this hotel again.

This business hotel is fine if you expect a cheap stay with small rooms and few extra amenities. Having a fridge was a big plus. I was traveling solo, so after I took a photo of the room with two beds, they removed one and gave me more space. It still seems to run on technology from the 70s. They use physical keys instead of cards, so don't lose yours. It also took about 10 minutes to find my reservation while they flipped through paper printouts. Those quirks aside, I found the hotel absolutely fine. 4/5.

The location is handy, with plenty of restaurants and nearby train stations, and the employees are polite. The rooms, though, were terrible. My bed sheets had stains on the first day. I told the front desk, and they were changed. There was also a hole in the wall, which I reported so I wouldn't be blamed for it. The walls had other stains and marks too. Some wear is understandable over the years, but it looked like no one had tried to fix it. The hole has come up in past reviews, including one I read from another guest. I left three bags of trash neatly in the bathroom for housekeeping: one with bottles, one with cardboard boxes from little figures I bought, and one with garbage. They cleaned the bathroom but left all the bags in the room. That hadn't happened at the other hotels in Japan where I've stayed. I went downstairs in my hotel slippers to ask where I could dispose of it myself. All three employees looked at me, and only the older man answered. He told me to leave it outside my door. I wasn't sure that was okay. I didn't argue because I was tired, and felt like the answer was just meant to get me out of the lobby. It was ridiculous and embarrassing, especially since my room was next to the banquet room. They didn't want to take the trash, which I can understand. I wasn't trying to hand it to them, just asking where I could throw it away. Don't stay here unless you're trying to spend as little as possible on accommodation.
