Shibuya Tobu Hotel

The only thing in its favor was the location, within walking distance of Shibuya station. The room for three was far too cramped: with three suitcases, we could hardly move, and the bathroom was tiny too. It really doesn’t fit three people. The room also wasn’t very clean and had an unpleasant smell. Two stars for the location, otherwise it would have been one.

I stayed for 2N3D and arrived very early, so I left my bags and headed out to run errands around Tokyo. My questions before arrival got prompt, helpful replies. The location worked very well for what I needed, and most staff I met spoke good English. That was a bonus. The bed and pajamas were comfortable, and the amenities were good quality. The coffee and tea bags from the self-service bar in the lobby were delicious. Pronto cafe and She Wolf Diner near reception served good food. My single room was less successful. It was the last room at the end of the floor, with a narrow entrance, so I couldn’t get my bags near the bed and had to leave them by the door. There were only two washing machines and two dryers on the 2nd floor. I had to go up and down a couple of times to do one load, and the hotel could use more machines on another level. The location saved me time while I was running errands, so I highly recommend it.

The rooms are small, yes, but that’s common in Japan, and mine had everything I needed: slippers, pajamas, bathroom essentials, all of it. It’s a great budget hotel in a good spot in Shibuya, within easy walking distance of the highlights and Shibuya station. There’s also a currency exchange in the lobby. It made a great little starting point for our honeymoon.

The location was convenient and easy to navigate, with a taxi stop right in front of the hotel. The beds were clean, the staff organized, and they were welcoming to English speakers. The rooms felt stuffy at first, so it’s important to get the ventilation going before bed. The windows don’t open for a view, but they do let in the soothing sound of the fountain outside.
