After a rough arrival, the rest of our stay at Sakura Edo no Mai Asakusa went much better. The daytime staff were kind and consistently helpful, including arranging a Japanese medical assistance tag and helping with transport details and taxis. Our room was clean, comfortable, and practical. The location is great for Sensō-ji, shops, restaurants, convenience stores, and transport. During Sanja Matsuri, the neighborhood was lively, and we could watch some of the procession from our street-facing room. The first night was extremely stressful. We’d traveled nearly 18 hours from London via Hong Kong and had repeatedly given the hotel our late arrival time, as requested. We got there around 10:45pm after an expensive airport taxi, but no one was at reception even though late check-in had been accepted. For almost two and a half hours we tried the QR code and phone number they’d provided, with no answer. I have a disability involving chronic pain and fatigue, and being stranded late at night with my daughter in an unfamiliar country after such a long trip was distressing. Eventually a staff member arrived and was genuinely apologetic. I would stay again for the location and the daytime staff, who were very good. Still, future guests should be careful about arriving late at night. Our arrival time had been clearly communicated, but the check-in arrangements caused us a lot of stress.

The hotel is nice and clean, and the rooms are roomy and well laid out. Having a small kitchen adds comfort, and you can pick up free amenities from reception when you ask. Getting there takes some walking: there are three or four metro stations nearby, each about 15 minutes away. I also think reception should have at least one or two irons, since there isn’t one in the hotel.

The best of the five hotels I stayed in during my trip around Japan, by far. The location was excellent, the room clean, and the service generally very good. Housekeeping and fresh towels came every other day rather than daily, which was fine after I adjusted my expectations. As Americans, we’re used to a particular kind of customer service that isn’t the standard everywhere. One thoughtful moment really stood out: I left laundry in the washer and told the staff I’d be out late. When I got back, they’d dried and neatly folded my clothes and left them in my room. I appreciated that a lot. Highly recommended!

We’d absolutely stay here again if we return to Tokyo. The hotel is handy for buses and metro stations, and it’s an easy walk to Asakusa’s temple, shops, and many restaurants. There’s a family mart open 24 hours right across the street, useful for coffee and egg sandals when jet lag has you up early. We spent six nights here and were very pleased. The rooms were a good size and very clean, and the staff were pleasant and helpful. They let us leave our bags early and booked taxis when we were leaving.

We came back for a second stay during our two-week trip, which says a lot. The family room had plenty of space and comfortable beds, and everything was extremely clean. Staff were really nice and helpful. It’s a peaceful neighborhood with no outside noise, yet there’s a bus stop outside and two metro stops close by. Restaurants are only a three-minute walk away, FamilyMart is across the street, and the large Life supermarket is about five minutes away. Best hotel we stayed at, definitely recommend it!
