The place itself is amazing, but the service has put me off booking again. I had reserved a full month and then, a week before the stay began, needed to leave early for medical reasons. I emailed about it while I was still within the cancellation period, but got no reply, apparently because they’d lose money. Three days before the stay, I went there in person. The girl said a lot without really answering me, and I didn’t want an argument, so I left it, hoping they’d sort it out afterward. They didn’t. I’m now out $360, despite only staying two weeks, and lost out on three... I may be back in a few months, but I’m unlikely to book here again because I feel they might take money from you whenever they can.

The guesthouse is only a few minutes from senso ji. The rooms were clean and had the sort of facilities you’d expect at a hostel. I enjoyed my stay.

The dorms get really hot, while the other rooms are very cold. I’d much rather have it the other way around, with warm bathrooms, too. As it is, I don’t think I can sleep without waking up.

You’re right in front of Sensoji Temple, though the station is quite a walk away. Check-in and check-out were easy. The comfort rooms and showers are well maintained, but early in the morning people start vacuuming inside the rooms. The walls between cubicles are so thin that a light sleeper will hear snoring, people shifting around, or someone hitting the wall. While cleaning, the workers or volunteers gossip loudly enough to hear, including one story about a volunteer going on a date 😅

I’ve made some good friends here, thanks to the shared atmosphere and all the backpackers coming through, whether they’re around for a few nights or several weeks. There are two lounge spaces for relaxing, and it also works for anyone who just wants a quiet stay. The rooms are generally clean and comfortable, and the TenTen staff have been friendly whenever I’ve asked a question or wanted a recommendation. The location is hard to beat for an affordable guesthouse. It’s about 30 meters from Sensōji temple, one of Tokyo’s most important areas, and you can see the pagoda and main temple buildings from the shared lounge on the top floor. Asakusa, by the Sumida River, is a lovely downtown area with lively bars, good restaurants, and plenty of other facilities. Public bath houses aren’t too far away.
