Towa apartment in Machiya

There was so much dust, and the air conditioner was covered in mold. The cushions seemed moldy too, and some condiments had expired. The air conditioning barely worked, the futon was empty with only a cloth cover, and belongings from the previous guest had been left behind. It was hard to make sense of the place. Still, I could sleep there and take a shower, so maybe that’s enough for Tokyo.

This is an affordable, unmanned guesthouse north of Machiya Station. The entrance has a moldy smell, which is the main downside. Inside, there’s a simple stove and an extension cord, plenty of bath and hand towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body soap. There’s a shower room rather than a bathtub, a toilet with a washlet, plus WiFi and air conditioning.

The room on the 2nd floor was completely unacceptable. It smelled musty, was dusty, and the air conditioning wasn’t cold. Small insects kept crawling out of the tatami mats, and there was no staff management. The address was also wrong and difficult to find. Think twice before checking in.

I didn’t use any services, so I can’t comment on those. There was a lot of dust, though. When I turned on the heat because I was cold, possibly a fan heater, the amount of dust was unbelievable. Even so, I had a good time. Meeting the Japanese guys on my last day was so much fun, and we made great memories. I probably wouldn’t have met them without this hotel, haha. That’s why I’m giving it five stars.
