Ueno First City Hotel

Everything else was fine, and the service was okay, but the shower really needs a proper sanitizing. The curtain looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages, and both the shower and toilet smelled awful. There was a sewer smell too, and mold in the corners of the room.

The walk to the hotel was lovely, with lots of little restaurants along the way. I’d follow Google’s winding route instead of walking straight along the main roads 😀. Check-in was quick and friendly, and the room was clean and well equipped. The standard double is small, though, like most hotels in this price range. I’d definitely stay again.

Getting to the lobby means using stairs, so it could be awkward with really big luggage. The staff were friendly, and there’s a water dispenser in the lobby, though no ice maker. The Japanese-style room felt tidy and cozy, even if a little dated. The location is fantastic. Just know the air conditioner only has cool and heat modes.

I was in town for a conference at the university of Tokyo, about a 20-minute walk away. My double room was on the top floor, in a corner, with a balcony looking out over the city. The AC was excellent, and the room was clean and serviced regularly. Breakfast was tasty and filling. There’s just one coin-operated laundry machine, but it worked well. The basics were taken care of, and I was very satisfied.
