Close enough to Shibuya crossing to get there easily, but far enough away that the noise wasn’t an issue. The rooftop terrace is there, though there isn’t much to look at from it. The capsule has the usual setup: showers, a small eating area, and lockers right by the beds. Staff can keep your luggage on checkout day, and you need a passcode to enter each floor.

I could finally relax here and feel safe, which turned my first trip to Japan around after a dirty, unsecured hostel I’d booked for all nine days had left me anxious about my health and safety. The bunk beds, room, and toilets were clean and well kept, and there’s a 24-hour reception. I also liked having a rooftop and a cafe downstairs. BookTeaBed is in a great spot near Shibuya crossing, Hachiko statue, and Mega Donki. The price felt worth it, and it’s the best hostel I’ve stayed in so far. I’d give it 10 out of 5 stars if I could. 👍

There’s a reasonable amount of room inside the capsule, and for the price it seems like decent value. I haven’t stayed in other capsule hotels to compare, though. The mattress could be a lot thicker, to put it mildly. You get what you pay for.

The bed and ventilation weren’t good, which other guests have mentioned too. The bigger issue for me was picking up my girlfriend’s backpack. We were staying at separate hostels, and while she was getting her hair done I’d left her bag at mine for convenience. I told a staff member I was there to retrieve it, even though I could have just gone in unnoticed. One of them accused me of breaking “house rules” and said the bag might have had “a bomb” in it. I tried to explain, but she threatened to call the police. It felt completely out of line. I was charged a service fee, and nobody ever pointed to a specific rule.

The location is the best part, with a 7-Eleven nearby and a FamilyMart across the street. For one night it was all right and the value wasn’t bad. It is a capsule hotel, so you get what you pay for. I imagine a longer stay could drive you a little crazy.
