A really lovely place to stay.

Getting to Teshima takes some effort, and the ferry connections make it less convenient as a base for seeing art on naoshima. Even so, we loved this guest house. It was clean, beautiful, and spacious, with two baths and a well-stocked kitchen. Our host was incredibly helpful, and the dinner her mother cooked was one of the highlights of our trip. Karato is a quiet little town, but the Teshima art museum and several other lovely sights are within walking distance.

This was my favorite guesthouse on the island so far. It felt like a comfortable relative's home, with lots of Teshima specialty cookies and thoughtful touches everywhere. The landlady supplied an ice shaver, butter for toast, homemade Japanese miso, and Teshima lemon juice for us to use. The house is spacious, elegant, and Japanese in style, with a lovely garden. I really liked the layout, and the place is fully equipped and very comfortable. There’s even a kids' room stocked with board games and toys, and the kitchen has everything you need. The landlady's furniture choices are very tasteful and brand-name, and from the soft furnishings to the sound system and bath products, everything feels high-end and comfortable. There's also a high-end washer and dryer. Nearby restaurants are great too, especially the izakaya run by a friend of the landlady. That was the best meal of my whole Seto Inland Sea trip.

The kitchen has a microwave, toaster, rice cooker, gas stove, and cooking utensils, so it's easy to make your own meals. Since there aren't many restaurants open at night, picking up local ingredients and cooking them makes for a satisfying stay. This cozy guesthouse on Teshima Island has been renovated beautifully, with thoughtful details from the owner throughout. It's clean, spacious, and comfortable, with heating throughout. It's also close to Karato Port, bike rentals, and the street where cats gather.
