The dinner made this stay memorable. The owner clearly puts care into using fresh ingredients: the corn soup was just local corn bought that morning and local milk, with no added sugar, and it was the best corn soup I’ve had. The steak was incredibly juicy and tender, possibly local A5 Wagyu if I understood right, and easily the best I’ve eaten. The log cabin is clean and interesting, with a lovely lake view and nature all around, so insects are to be expected. We came in late September; keeping the verandah mesh shut and moving quickly through the entrance kept them outside. Breakfast and dinner are worth choosing. It turned out to be a really nice stay. There’s a reason it’s called Canadian Club :).

That last course before dessert had us pausing our conversation at the table so we could take in the flavor. The multi-course dinner was heavenly, almost a spiritual experience. The owner was kind enough to drive us to the JR station in Toya so we could catch our train. The rooms are spacious, with a lovely bathtub, and the views from them are stunning. The location is amazing too. We also enjoyed hiking to the Usoshinzan and the lava domes. I can’t recommend this place enough!

Toya beef cooked by the Toya chef was an amazing steak. The corn soup was just corn, without sugar, milk, or cream, so it tasted like drinking corn itself, full of goodness. The room was clean and spacious, with a great lake view and a bathtub facing the water. Away from the busy pace of things, and the starry sky was incredible, the kind you never see in the city. The host was warm, friendly, and welcoming. I just love this place. 🥰

A few months after our winter visit, the owner got in touch to say the snow had melted and my husband's lost ring had turned up outside the cabin. They had kept it safe for us. We came back at the end of that year to pick it up, and stayed another night with our family. We were celebrating our first wedding anniversary when we lost it, so we're very grateful. The vacation home is run by a man and his mother. The room is cozy, with a comfortable tub looking out at beautiful Lake Toya, and the food is delicious. Both hosts are so warm-hearted. If I get the chance to return to Toya, I’ll definitely stay again.

The room and bathtub both look out over the lake. Dinner was delicious almost all the way through, and the beef was the best ever. There were a few bugs in the room, though.
