The floor seating and minimalist setup give the room a peaceful, almost zen-like feel. Bamboo carpet underfoot adds to that calm, and it felt restful and homey as soon as I walked in. It’s a distinctive kind of stay, close to the station and a good option in Toyama.

It’s close to the station, but the rules felt odd and there were a lot of them. They said the law required a copy of my passport. My Japanese wife said no other hotel had asked for one and refused. We also accidentally got a smoking room. The tatami room was kind of cool, but I wouldn’t recommend the place to foreigners.

I liked the ryokan-like feel combined with hotel convenience, and the breakfast bowls were small, which helped avoid unnecessary queues. The sauna had a TV and cold bath. The location was the one I wanted, especially for the car-share spot I needed the next day. With February snowfall in mind, I also wanted a convenient place with a large public bath. There were drawbacks too. The room tap water isn't drinkable, so you have to go to the second floor for water. I used the bathroom dispenser to fill my pet's tank. The mattress is quite soft, so anyone with back pain should take care. The public bath felt too cramped for four adults, and the blinds let in all the light. Interesting features, but some flaws. I keep coming back on business trips because the breakfast is so good, and the hotel is great value for the price. The rooms have a modern Japanese look, with tatami and low beds. The facilities aren't new, but they're clean and well looked after. There's also a large public bath and sauna. My one wish is for USB power by the beds in every room. If you forget a charger, though, you can borrow one at reception.
