Hotel Relax Inn Toyama

I told them I wanted a non-smoking room, but I was put in a smoking room. The window wouldn’t open enough to air it out. I checked more than once to see if a non-smoking room had become available, yet nobody at the desk thought to mention the air-cleaning unit, which was tucked out of sight behind other equipment under the desk. The service on this was absolutely lousy. If this hotel were the only place left in Toyama next time, I’d cancel my appointments and reschedule my business trip instead of staying here.

The hotel is very close to Toyama Train Station, which makes it a good base for visiting the Alpine Route. Rooms are small but affordable and well equipped. The air conditioning is very weak. At one point, it was 29 degrees. Parking costs 800 yen overnight, from 14:00 to 11:00 the next day. If the car stays during the day too, from 11:00 to 14:00, that adds 150 yen for every half hour. It ends up much more expensive than nearby lots that cap the price per 24 hours, so it’s not ideal if you’re driving here for the Alpine Route.

The bed was good and the staff were friendly enough, but cleanliness could be better. They should add a range and a bread toaster.
