The historic pillars and staircase inside the Ryokan made the place feel warm and comfortable. I also mentioned it on my wonder-tips site.

You can really feel the history in this Japanese house, and the managers are great.
Miyata Ryokan felt like coming back to my hometown, and of all the historic inns I’ve stayed in, this one was the best. The rooms and furniture were lovely, and the breakfast with its rich kelp broth was delicious. There were about three groups staying when I visited. The owner seemed to be running things alone and was quiet. Rooms don’t have their own toilets or baths, and the service isn’t fussy, but I still left feeling very satisfied. Everything was meticulously clean, with thoughtful little touches that never felt intrusive. You can sense the old traditions of an inn that hosted Tokugawa Yoshinobu and other literary figures. Thank you very much.
The breakfast was the standout for me, served in a charming private room with kelp-cured sashimi and steamed fish. The Toyama seafood and mountain produce made every dish just right for taste, portion, and presentation. Best ryokan breakfast I’ve had. This Edo-period inn has welcomed many famous guests, yet still balances its dignified history with modern hospitality. The rooms and baths were clean, and I liked the complimentary water and coffee and the library corner. There are two private baths, and I was surprised when the heaters came on automatically as I entered the changing room. Yao is known for the Kaze no Bon festival, but it’s quiet and peaceful in the less busy seasons too. Highly recommended.
I stayed in a separate room in this charming old Japanese house. There’s no toilet, bath, or sink inside the room, but they’re just outside, so it wasn’t inconvenient. The building is well cared for and very clean. The Western-style toilet has a bidet, the wall-mounted air conditioner is high-performance, and the shoji screens and tatami seem to be replaced regularly. The room was spotless. The bath isn’t a hot spring, just heated water, but you can reserve it for private use with no time limit and set the temperature yourself, which was convenient. Breakfast was included in my plan, and every dish was delicious and nicely prepared. It’s a bit far from Toyama city center, but that makes the area quiet and relaxing. I didn’t mind the distance. My personal scores out of five: food 5, bath 4, service 5.
