The room was the worst part of the stay. There were exposed pipes, hairs in the bathroom sink, an old guest's ice cream in the fridge, lint and dirt on the carpet, and dead bugs. I checked under the duvet and found hair on the sheets, so I wondered if they hadn't been changed. I told the staff and they moved me, but the new room also had exposed pipes. Its homemade bedside desk wasn't varnished, so it seemed like it could give you splinters. The TV table wobbled and didn't feel safe, especially if a child leaned on it, and the bottom needs reinforcing. The bed was badly made and there was mold in the room. There was no hot water, and we couldn't stay that day. Staff said the boiler was overloaded and couldn't provide enough, and that they were talking with a contractor. They asked me to come in the morning, and apparently all rooms had the same problem. If they'd told me or posted a notice at check-in, I could have gone after the hot spring. I took a morning bath, but since everyone else was doing the same, I mostly got a cold shower. There's nothing around, either. At night the outdoor unit was so loud I couldn't sleep. I hadn't managed to bathe properly, the hygiene made me uneasy, and I couldn't relax. Check-in was busy. I signed in first and was offered a welcome drink, but they didn't call me when it was ready. When I went to ask, the same person who'd offered it asked if I hadn't checked in yet. I was just trying to get to my room, so that was disappointing. That alone wouldn't have upset me much, but then I saw the state of the room. The front desk staff could also learn from other hotels about how they speak to guests and hand over cards. They should post information about renovations and the hot water issue. The hotel isn't in a state where it should be letting guests stay.

It felt like a relaxed, homey place, and I was comfortable there. The room was spacious, with the bathroom and toilet separate, which was handy. I was surprised breakfast was a convenience store sandwich, but it was free, so I guess that's fine. The pizza on the second day was really tasty 😊 It has a warm atmosphere that seems suited to a slow-paced trip.

The staff service wasn't bad, but the room made this the worst place I've ever stayed. There were stink bugs inside and a bad smell, and in late November the heat was weak, especially in the large twin room. When I tried to fill the tub, only lukewarm water mixed with sand came out, and it stayed that way until checkout. Breakfast cost another 800 yen, but a heavy beef bowl wasn't what I wanted in the morning. A chain restaurant would have been better. The room's feel made me think it might once have been a nursing home. The service itself seemed okay, probably thanks to the owner's skills, but I won't come back. I don't know what will happen if things keep going this way.

There was a Roomba, but no staff at the front desk or anywhere in the building after 10 p.m. The official site listed vending machines, though I couldn't find any. No bath or face towels were provided, so I had to go buy some after checking in. There were three stink bugs in my room.

The staff were all really friendly. When it started raining as we headed out, they even gave us umbrellas, which was great. The room for two was surprisingly big, with a large desk and four chairs, so it was nice for talking with a friend staying in another room. It and the bathroom were very clean, though there was an odd smell. The toilet fan was extremely loud and echoey, maybe because it was broken. There's not much around, so get what you need before you arrive. I'd been a bit worried after reading the bad reviews, but I had a lovely trip.
