Hotel New Takahashi Tsukuba-Ushiku IC (Kouyadai)

It was a clean, serviceable budget hotel, and the staff were friendly. The place has seen better days, but it did what I needed and there wasn't much to complain about.

Very affordable, and really just somewhere to sleep.

I've used this hotel often over the years, and the facilities are clearly very old. There's no elevator, which makes the stairs hard with big luggage, including when checking out. Still, it's clean, so it's fine if all you need is a place to sleep and get out of the wind and rain. I once took a Japanese-style room because there was no other choice. Since then, I've started seeking those rooms out. They're spacious and very comfortable. There's a convenience store nearby, but not many places to eat, and it's inconvenient without a car.
