The open-air bath feels wonderful!

The hot springs were great, and the large public bath was roomy enough to warm up properly. There are handrails in the outdoor bath, though older visitors may want to take care. I also liked the thoughtful touches, like barley tea, heating, comics, and table tennis. I was visiting Yamagata, a neighboring prefecture, for the first time. Before I arrived, they kindly contacted me about a boiler problem and the weather, which helped me feel at ease. My Japanese-style room was spacious and relaxing, and the staff were gentle and kind. I think that reflects the character of Yamagata people. The food was delicious, with a nice amount of seafood, potato stew shabu-shabu, tempura, and kamameshi. I was happy to try Yamagata specialties, and thought they were considerate given the small number of guests. Breakfast was good too. I'd like to visit again. Thank you.

During the strongest, longest cold wave, the heaters and extra futons they brought to my room made the stay comfortable. The air conditioning still hadn't been repaired, though, and even with heaters in different parts of the building, some areas remained cold. The food was a pleasant surprise, with a homemade feel and good flavor, unlike the usual reheated commercial buffet food. Before my visit, they called to explain that the room air conditioning was out because of a boiler problem. They said they'd provide a fan heater or other measures, add another heater if it still felt cold, or let me cancel. That advance warning saved me from worrying on the day. I plan to book again once the air conditioning is fixed. My main concern was that a man from Taiwan was bathing in the women's bath. They should put a large, clear sign at the entrance soon, since it's easy to get confused. If nothing changes, I think it's better to prepare yourself and take a bath.
