Shonai Hotel Suiden Terrasse

The breakfast was fantastic, though there weren't enough seats for everyone when it was too cold to use the outdoor terrace. The restaurant itself was excellent, so the kitchenette in our spacious room wasn't really needed. There was a living room too, and the large beds were very comfortable. The hotel has an onsen in a separate building, linked by an indoor walkway. The staff were professional, friendly, and always helpful. We loved the Scandinavian feel, with wood throughout, and thought the design and quality deserved more than a three-star rating. A fantastic hotel.

We used the hotel as our base for exploring the area's nature and spirituality, and having a car made the location easy for us. The healthy breakfasts and kind staff added to a lovely stay. I'll always remember being here with my daughter. The place feels immense, beautiful to walk through, clean, and full of joy. Our room, G112, was cozy and comfortable, and she spent many evenings playing with the puzzle toys there.

The building feels like a real work of architecture, and the service is straightforward, relaxed, and still professional. Breakfasts were luxurious. Up in the north of Tsuruoka, this is a fantastic place to stay. Our room was spacious, practical, very comfortable, and spotless. We had a really great stay here!

At check-in, the male staff member seemed to single me out because of my gender, and it felt really unpleasant. I found myself wondering if it would have been a pleasant interaction had I been his type or to his liking. The concept of the hotel is good, but the service felt childish and disappointing. Amenities can be sparse, but there was only one cotton swab. It would be better if the front desk could offer more to guests who need them.
