Maruya Hotel

I spent about a month here for work and found the Japanese-style room comfortable and relaxing. The bath on the first floor added to the cozy, home-like feel. I was very satisfied with the meals, both breakfast and dinner, which were mostly Japanese food.

The staff were welcoming and very polite, and breakfast was included. I stayed at Maruya Hotel in Tsushima, where the warm tatami room made it easy to relax and enjoy my stay.

The food was delicious, and all the staff were really friendly. I was on a short solo trip and wanted somewhere reasonably priced within walking distance of the port, so this suited me perfectly. The building is old, but it was clean and had no smell at all, not even like a smoking room. I heard there was a large public bath and went to look, but found only a men's bath. I wasn't too bothered, though I did wonder if it was for men only. The nostalgic atmosphere made me feel like I was on an island.

The old-fashioned feel of the reception was right up my alley. For my first trip to Tsushima, I chose Maruya Ryokan after thinking carefully about where to stay. Dinner reservations had to be made by phone, and they asked whether I wanted the regular meal or local cuisine. I went with the local option, including hot stone grilling, and skipped breakfast since I had to leave early. They adjusted the price for that. Dinner was served in a separate room, and sitting with those huge hot stones felt a bit like eating in a sauna. The portion was satisfying and the seasoning was excellent. When I left the next morning, they kindly drove me to my rental car, which I appreciated in the heat. I had considered eating nearby and only staying overnight, but choosing dinner here was a great call. I'd definitely come back.
