Unzen Kyushu Hotel - Mt Resort

The view over the steaming ponds was great, and the staff were friendly. I loved the retro dining room, and the food was fantastic, well above average for a hotel. The in-room onsen was convenient, though a little small. The corridors are quite long and a bit cold. It was a bit of a splurge, but worth it.

We came in November and found the resort peaceful, relaxing, and beautiful, tucked into a quiet corner of Japan. The hotel has an old-fashioned feel and understated luxury. Our room had its own private onsen, kept constantly full of warm spring water. The robes and pajamas were large enough for Americans, which isn't always the case in Japan. Meals were fantastic, multi-course kaiseki with fresh produce and seafood, and a nice wine selection. Guests also get access to two lounges with free wine and beer. The rooftop lounge has a lovely view. The staff were unfailingly polite and helpful. Prices might look high, but I thought they were excellent value.

We spent Christmas Day here and loved relaxing in our own private onsen. The dinner was excellent. A fantastic place to stay in Unzen, highly recommended.

The hot springs were a highlight, with clean, well-kept baths and lovely nature views, a relaxing way to wind down after sightseeing. I also enjoyed the spacious, clean rooms, with comfortable futon bedding, mountain views, and a calm atmosphere. The restaurant served delicious local food with fresh ingredients and seasonal dishes, and attentive staff made meals even better. The hotel combines traditional Japanese charm with modern convenience, making it a good spot for relaxing and exploring. Its service, peaceful feel, and amenities exceeded my expectations. I'd highly recommend it to anyone visiting the region who wants a memorable, authentic Japanese experience. My stay at Kyushu Hotel was spectacular, a real hidden gem.
