Yoko House

I spent several nights here, and the room was really comfortable. The building sits up high, so the view is great. I also had a nice time chatting with some of the other travelers I met. If I’m back in the Ishikawa area, I’d definitely stay here again.

It felt comfortable staying here with my children. The host welcomed kids, and the guests understood that some noise was okay. She was flexible and happy to answer questions, whether about what was available, staying for several days when one date seemed full, or arranging something I wanted to do. I heard she gets inquiries by email or phone before stays and tries to make the place easy for mothers on a tight budget. The price is low, so I wouldn’t choose it for the views, quiet, or hotel service. Still, it wasn’t run-down, and although there are stairs up to the second floor, it felt like staying at a friend’s home. The atmosphere is nice, and I recommend it. The common rooms are like a home living room. There’s a free water dispenser, fridge with ice maker and shaved ice machine, and freezer. Private rooms have free Wi-Fi, and there’s a TV in the common area, with roomy desks where people might watch together. Toys and games include a big whiteboard, Othello, shogi, piano, guitar, karuta, and doll-like items. The private rooms open off the shared areas and come in different types, including Doritomi, twin beds, and Japanese-style rooms with space for three futons. During my stay, one guest drinking in the common area happened to be used to children, so we had a great time. Other guests seemed to relax in their rooms, use the shower and toilet, or eat in their rooms. I didn’t see some guests at all, while others had been introduced to the inn by friends and stayed longer. I heard school trip students and university students often stay here.

My first guesthouse stay felt so relaxed, almost like being at home, and I had a lot of fun. Depending on who else is staying, there could be all kinds of drama, so it really felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The owner was very friendly and told me about lots of famous places. I was traveling solo around Okinawa, and there was a supermarket within walking distance with unusual ingredients you don’t find on the mainland, so I got to try local food. I’ll definitely visit Okinawa again and would appreciate your help then.

The balcony had a lovely view both in daylight and at night. I came with two friends on a cycling trip around Okinawa, and the welcome was warm. It was a relaxing place, and we could leave our bikes in a balcony-like spot on the second floor, which put us at ease about theft. There were plenty of amenities too, so we didn’t have to pack much.
