The owner couple even offered me toast and coffee in the morning, though breakfast wasn’t part of the booking. I stayed on October 2, 2025, when Okinawa hit its highest temperature of the year, 35.0°C, and the air conditioning kept the room comfortable all night. My room had two comfortable beds, and the shower was easy to use. The sink was set apart from the changing area, and the men’s and women’s toilets were separate and had bidets. For the price, it was as good as a regular hotel. I’d happily stay again.

It has a homey, grandmother’s-house feel. The sea is close, and I thought it would be nice to swim before checking in. There’s also an outdoor shower for 200 yen. The two-bedroom room is right beside the entrance and near the dining area, so voices from there carry clearly. Meals aren’t included, but they suggested several dishes and let us try them. The shared toilet and shower are split by gender, and both are clean and roomy. I also watched the sunrise with another guest and enjoyed chatting with them. It’s a nice place to meet someone.

A morning walk around Shirumichu is well worth it. The elderly couple who run this island guesthouse are so welcoming that I can see people wanting to come back. The facilities are old, but they keep the place very clean, even washing the slippers after each use. Toilets and showers are shared and separated by gender. If that setup bothers you, a pricier resort hotel may suit you better, though this is still a place I’d return to.

The nearby coast has lovely rock formations, and you can walk to Silmichu from here. We first stayed in 2008 and 2009, when our kids were little, then came back after 15 years and got the same room again. It still had that easy, relaxing feel. We ate in the dining room with side dishes we’d picked up at a supermarket on the main island, and it was nice to talk with you both. Wishing you both good health!
