The room was tiny and dusty, and the whole place smelled bad. Everyone across roughly 40 rooms had to share one shower and bathtub, plus one toilet and two urinals. We left without staying and found another hotel. Horrible.

It’s around a 15-minute walk to Wakayama Station, with Arochi’s downtown area nearby and a convenience store about three minutes away. For the price, I found it very reasonable. The building is old but sturdy, and the rooms, bidet toilets, and bathrooms were clean. The mattresses were good quality, too. There’s a distinct rush grass smell in the rooms, like in tatami rooms in Showa-era buildings. Some people may not care for it, but I liked the atmosphere.

It’s a budget place, so it makes sense if you picture an old Showa-era community center. In the shared bathroom there are no lockable lockers, and towels aren’t supplied.
