Hotel Nakanoshima

The outdoor hot bath was incredible, and there were massage chairs in the room. I slept on a futon on tatami mats, and there was free sake in the evening. It’s a really unusual hotel, mixing very traditional, dated 20th-century style with modern luxury. It made me think of where Bond might have stayed in Japan in the 1970s. The highlight of my vacation so far.

We only stayed one night, and I wish we’d had longer. The views were stunning, the rooms lovely, and the service was wonderful. Breakfast and dinner were delicious, though dinner felt a bit rushed, possibly because we were the last people in the restaurant.

After finishing our 5-day walk of the Kumano Kodo, my wife and I stayed for one night and felt like we’d landed in heaven. The service and attention to detail were first class. I can’t believe this hotel has only a 3-star rating. Highly recommended.

The onsen was unforgettable, especially the gorgeous sea view from outside. I liked that they swapped the male and female baths so everyone could enjoy that view. Dinner was fantastic too, every dish beautifully presented and delicious. I also enjoyed a complimentary ume drink from the bar. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. The whole stay felt like stepping into a secret world, and I’ll never forget it. Thank you for such an amazing time!!!
