I paid only 4000 yen per night for a private room on a long weekend, which is a low price for a place about 5 mins walk from wakayamashi station. The owner was really kind, and the hotel has a late Showa era feel. My room was clean and had no bad smells, plus a fridge, kettle and hair dryer. I could hear trains going by, but I actually liked the white noise. The towels felt too old and dry, and there was just one small, hard pillow, so those could be improved. Still, people complain too much. You have to pay more than this if you want luxury. The location is very convenient, and for the price, I thought it was good.

For the price, it’s quite good. The hotel is close to the station, and the room has its own bathroom and toilet as well as Wi-Fi. I expected some train noise, so it didn’t bother me much and I found the stay very comfortable.

The entrance was a struggle when we arrived in heavy rain. We tried to take off our raincoats, but the dirt floor area was too narrow. It may work fine for people on foot or in a car, but it’s extremely difficult for motorcyclists, so I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s been a while since I made such a mistake. This place is cheap, but the quality is poor. Do your research or you may find things missing. There’s no car or bicycle parking, no coin laundry, and no washlet. Trains passing by are quite loud. Earplugs are provided, but early risers might sleep through their alarms. The convenience store is quite far away.

I booked through Jalan and paid online. The location is handy, just a short walk from Wakayamashi Station, and there are plenty of paid parking spaces nearby. They gave me tea at check-in, which was nice since I was thirsty. The room was just right, though the refrigerator didn’t get very cold. It’s near the tracks by the station, so I wouldn’t suggest it for anyone sensitive to train noise. I slept through it until my alarm went off, though.

It was my first night of a solo cycling trip from Kyoto, and I stayed here in December 2006. The place was incredibly cheap, I think less than 3000 yen per night, and close to Wakayama City Station. I’d seen some bad online reviews beforehand, but my stay was comfortable and very reasonable. They even found a place for me to park my bicycle. I went to the area in front of the station to buy something at a convenience store. At the time, it was quite run-down, which was hard to imagine from the name Wakayama City Station.
