I discovered an unauthorized double booking through Agoda only when I checked in. The staff, Nguyen Van Tu and Oshima, first said they’d help cancel the duplicate, but when Agoda contacted them, they denied responsibility and refused to cooperate. It caused me unnecessary stress and financial loss, and I found their behavior dishonest and unprofessional. The common areas were dirty, the service was appalling, and the onsen was hugely overrated. The management seemed to lack integrity, and I couldn’t trust the staff. This was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. Don’t stay here. There was no accountability.

Hiina no Yu was quiet and restful, with minimalist decor and the soothing scent of tatami. The kaiseki meals at breakfast and dinner were a highlight, prepared by a renowned chef and team and presented like edible art. The staff were attentive without hovering. On the final morning, I had a soak in the public onsen, and the steam seemed to ease my lingering aches. We were welcomed by the ryokan shuttle driver right after arriving at Kada Station, and the ride through the quiet coastal town was lovely. At the entrance, the staff bowed to greet us, setting a warm tone for the stay. The ryokan is just steps from Awashima Shrine ⛩️, known for its sea of vintage dolls, and Kada Beach 🌊, a peaceful spot for fishing, so exploring was easy. If you’re in Osaka, Hiina no Yu could be a good detour to Wakayama, around 2.5 hours by train or 1.5 by car to the south.
The staff were warm, friendly, and professional. The room was beautiful and comfortable, and both baths were clean and at perfect temperatures. Dinner and breakfast were perfect too. I couldn’t have asked for more. I recommend this place to everyone and will definitely come back.
The tempura set was huge and only 1500JPY. I stopped in for lunch and a few hours in the onsen, which was just 800JPY when you eat there. The staff were welcoming and really helpful, even though they didn't speak much English.
They serve jelly after the hot spring, and you can have free honey konjac too. The onsen was great, with a lovely sea view and an outdoor setting. Afternoon seems like the best time to go, though the wind can make it a little chilly.
