Hotel Takikawa

The owner was very friendly and helpful, and the place welcomes foreign travelers. Make sure you know some Japanese or have Google Translate ready. The rooms were spacious, very clean, and comfortable, especially for the price. The onsen was a good size, hot, easy to get to, and closes at 11. There’s parking outside and a convenience store around the corner. It’s close to Wakkanai’s attractions. Highly recommend!

2023.9.28 We paid 10,000 yen per night to stay at the hotel. The large public baths are open 16:30-23:30 and 05:30-08:00. Unfortunately, the smell in the room was bothersome.

When I’m in Wakkanai on business, I usually look for a hotel near either Wakkanai Station or Minami-Wakkanai Station, and this one is a good option. It’s located about halfway between the two. The business hotel opened around 1998 and is a little old, but the rooms were nicer than I expected, and there’s a hot spring bath. It’s also conveniently close to a convenience store. At the time of my stay, March 26, 2024, I got a twin room for a reasonable 6,500 yen without meals. This is Vol. 9 of Washio★Jiro’s “Hotels I’ve Stayed At” series in Wakkanai.
