We arrived late without a reservation, just driving by to ask about vacancies, and luckily they had room for all five of us: three adults and two toddlers, including our youngest, who was 10 months old. It's difficult to book local guesthouses in small Japanese towns when the websites are all in Japanese and phone calls aren't an option. The inn was quiet and had a nice view. We didn't eat there. The clean onsen was pleasant and private, and my three-year-old son and I pretty much had it to ourselves. Our room was small, but fortunately we had an air mattress. I really didn't like being charged for our 10-month-old. Maybe it was a communication issue, but I paid because we couldn't communicate. Next time I visit Hokkaido, I'll rent a camper van!

The stay was cozy and very nice, and the meals were delicious. It's a bit far from the nearby city, so you'll probably need a rental car. I'd like to come back sometime in the summer.

The owner and staff were so kind, and I really appreciated their help and the delicious rice balls. I'll come back with my family for sure. The walls are a little thin, so voices from other rooms can carry sometimes. It's a lovely spot to unwind, but the public bus schedule is limited, so I'd suggest renting a car if you're planning to see a lot of places.

Wakkanai was outstanding, and this place had great food and a great location. The owner was the nicest.

The owners were welcoming, and the rooms had a good amount of space. Breakfast was great, though there's a lot of seafood, so keep that in mind. The location is incredible, with so little light pollution that you can stargaze. There's a well-equipped common room, plus a small hot spring and an outdoor hot tub.
