The proprietor was honest, kind, and really helpful. Rental cars were in short supply on the island, apparently because of a one-time travel stimulus, and we couldn’t get one. The proprietor made sure we weren’t stranded at the ferry. The cottage itself was clean and nicely equipped, with a Hawaiian-inspired look, a high-quality electric piano, and beautiful grounds. A friendly cat wanders outside, and a monkey stopped by too. There’s a gorgeous waterfall nearby. It seems like a great place for a couple or a family. When I come back, I’ll ask about the secret swimming hole the proprietor mentioned.

The garden blends beautifully into the forest behind it, with mountains at the cottage’s back and an ocean view from the front. It sits in lush greenery in the island’s southeast, about 20 minutes by car from the airport. Inside, the all-wood furniture and interior have the cozy feel of a classic English cottage. The large main room feels peaceful, and the central kitchen makes cooking convenient. A concrete base and crawl space help protect the building from rising damp, while the covered terrace wraps around two sides. We felt lucky to find this place on a paradise island. The owners clearly take great care of it.

We came here at the end of our Yakushima trip for two nights of relaxing, and the property was gorgeous. The hosts were so friendly, and it really felt like paradise. We’ll miss the outdoor pool and starry sky, and would love to come back.

We couldn’t stay as long as we wanted because of an early departure, but we still managed to climb the mountain as planned. It made our first trip to Yakushima memorable, and we’re grateful for the owners’ warm hospitality. The cottage and roomy garden sit amid Yakushima’s wonderful nature. Everything was spotless, and the furniture was both stylish and comfortable. Best of all was the private natural hot spring bath outside. (^_^)
