The room and view were beautiful, and the facilities were really lovely. The design gets five stars from me, but the cleaning and hygiene would get two. I found dried pee on the floor when I entered, and cleaning in my room seemed to be kept to the bare minimum. There was dust in the corners and on my mirror, among other places. Service was OK, though I've had more attentive staff and better service at other ryokans. It's a shame the hygiene and service didn't meet the expectations set by the lovely room and facilities.

I stayed in February. The rooftop bath was great, but the indoor one was horribly lukewarm in winter. Someone's bound to catch a cold. The incense was way too strong too.

A really nice ryokan with good service. All the staff were friendly, especially a Nepali guy whose name I didn't ask. He was very helpful and suggested things to do in Yugawara. We really appreciated our stay.

It's expensive, but I felt it was worth it. The hospitality was top-notch, and the location was peaceful and quiet. Dinner and breakfast were excellent kaiseki meals, and the onsen was great. A perfect place to relax.

The location is beautiful and our room was pretty, but the service fell short. The food wasn't up to a high standard, and there was very little consideration for our dietary requirements, even though we'd sent them months ahead and reminded the staff before the meal.
