Marine Blue Yakushima

The meals from the owner were absolutely delicious, and we loved our stay. The hotel is right on the beach, with views of the sea turtle nesting sites from our room and balcony. It’s a prime spot for watching nesting turtles.

We had a great time here and ate two excellent meals. The rooms are basic and simple, but the beach is right outside. It was turtle nesting season, and it looked like eggs had been laid the night before.

Keiko takes real pride in caring for this special, beautiful, quiet place and beach. She’s an amazing host, and the hospitality, comfort, and food were wonderful. If trash washes up on the beach during your stay, please help keep it clean for Keiko and the turtles. Thanks, Keiko. See you again!

We were there in late August. When we arrived, the woman running the hotel told us everything would be shut down for the next three days because of a typhoon. We didn’t feel welcome. My “grib-files” for the area showed what looked like good wind for the next few days and some rain, but nothing serious. After discussing it among ourselves, we decided to stay instead of leaving the beautiful island in a panic, as our host recommended. Believe it or not, we had three of the nicest days of our vacation on Yakushima. We were lucky to have a rental car, so we didn’t depend on the hotel’s rather remote facilities. The rooms were fine, though there was no room service because of the predicted typhoon. Breakfast was very nice, Japanese-style. The beach in front of the hotel is lovely, though the sand is quite rough in some spots. Sadly, there was no onsen available for the non-traditional rooms, I guess. I remember booking because I saw pictures of an onsen, but perhaps I got that wrong.
