Comfort Hotel Yamagata

The carpet had a few stains, though it was free of dust and the room was clean. I really liked the hotel overall, especially the delicious free breakfast and how close it is to Yamagata station.

I came for one night so I could catch the first bus to Zao Onsen. The station and the bus stop are both about a three-minute walk away, and the room was clean and a decent size. They provide yukata, a toothbrush, a razor and a comb. The guy at reception was super friendly and spoke English. Best of all was the breakfast spread, with fresh smoothies, cereal and fruit, salads, soups and a decent selection of hot food. I saw a one-star review calling breakfast terrible, but that person may have been very picky or had a lot of dietary restrictions.

The room was pretty tiny, but the location is good, very close to Yamagata Station. I loved the simple breakfast, which almost felt like home cooking. I tried the blended juice, thinking banana and cauliflower would make a healthy drink, but when I asked, they told me it had syrup in it too.

The rooms were small but clean, and you can do your own laundry there. The hotel is very convenient for the train station. Breakfast had lots of variety and was really good. The staff were so nice and helpful, too. Our train was delayed, and we wouldn’t have made it to a show the night we arrived if they hadn’t quickly arranged taxis for us. You can also ask the front desk for extra pillows.
