At ¥200 for adults and ¥100 for kids, entry is inexpensive. This is the largest public onsen in Zao, and its water feels great. My skin felt silky after a soak. It's a beautiful building right at the top of the local shopping and restaurant street, so you can step out for a snack and come back to bathe. At 42.5°c, it's the coldest of the onsens, which may make it easier for families and people with sensitive skin.

Kamiyu Onsen costs ¥200. There's a sink inside and a toilet outside, but no shower, so use a scoop to rinse yourself with the onsen water before getting in.

After skiing or snowboarding, or seeing the snow monsters lit up, a soak in a traditional onsen is just the thing. Some of the onsens are unattended, and they kindly ask visitors to pay 200 yen for entry. There isn't any soap inside, so rinse yourself with the onsen water before getting in. It's around 35 degrees Celsius, not too hot and comfortable enough. Definitely worth trying if you're in the area.

This onsen has the lowest temperature of the ones nearby, at 42 degrees, which is still pretty hot or about average for most hotel onsens. The others reach 43-44.3, which seems scalding to me! This one feels just right, though the sulfur smell is noticeable but tolerable. It was included in the hotel's free onsen service. They give you a little stub to use instead of paying 200 yen.
