Our family of three had a very pleasant stay at Yamagata Grand Hotel in a Triple Room. There was plenty of space even with the extra bed, and we could open all our luggage without feeling cramped. The room has a classic look, with a bit of a 90s feel, but it was clean, comfortable, and well maintained rather than worn out. Housekeeping did a thorough job each day and changed the towels daily, keeping everything spotless. The one small downside is getting there: it's about an 18-minute walk from Yamagata Station, and there are no buses after 8 PM, which can be inconvenient if you return late. Still, I'd recommend it, especially to families who need room to spread out.

The breakfast buffet doesn't have quite the variety you'd find at trendy business hotels, but there was a satisfying range of local ingredients and regional flavors, and I was very happy with it. The building and facilities are showing their age, yet they're well cared for and spotlessly clean. Staff were warm and welcoming, which made for a relaxing atmosphere. Being in Nanokamachi also meant interesting things to enjoy and good shops to discover nearby, even though it's far from the station. 🎵

Clean, affordable, and comfortable, with some of the nicest staff I met on my trip to Japan. The breakfast is very good; I'd get it bundled with the room, since it gives you enough energy for the day and lets you visit the Onsen areas without worrying about food the rest of the day. If you want to visit ginzan onsen, this hotel is far from it, but finding a room there is difficult and expensive, so grand hotel seems like a good affordable alternative. I've seen complaints about the station distance, but it's only a 15-minute walk. After that delicious breakfast, the walk is good exercise anyway, LOL.

The pillows weren't comfortable, and we couldn't get extra ones. Although the room was bigger, the hotel and room felt old and outdated, a bit mucky, and uncomfortable. It's about a 15-20 minute walk from the station. I'd look for somewhere closer to the JR station and pay a little more for a nicer place.

The room was comfortable and clean, and the staff were friendly. Parking is available for 1000 yen per night. It's conveniently placed, with restaurants and stores within walking distance.
